Yunnan Red

Our Yunnan Red, also known as Dianhong, comes from the highlands of Yunnan. Dianhong is considered the most popular black tea (referred to as "red tea" in Chinese) from Yunnan and is known for its very harmonious flavor profile, which convinces even black tea skeptics due to its low bitterness.

Due to the high proportion of buds, which turn golden yellow rather than black during oxidation, the tea appears reddish in the cup. In terms of taste, its natural sweetness, underscored by notes of caramel and malt, stands out in particular.

The tea is pressed into the shape of a chocolate bar, which not only makes portioning easier but also protects the aroma of the leaves. Thanks to the pressing, the tea stays fresh longer and is ideal for achieving consistent results when brewing.

The amber-red infusion has a scent of caramel and cocoa. A wonderful tea for a sweet start to the day, for warming moments on cold days, and also as a well-rounded accompaniment to a meal.

Why did we include this in our shop?

When we first drank this tea during our trip to Yunnan, we were so surprised by its sweetness that we naively asked if there was sugar in it. When we were told there wasn't, we knew this tea was something special, and it has been our favorite black tea ever since.
