Guizhou Green

Duyun Maojian from the mist-shrouded, mountainous Guizhou province is officially ranked among the ten most famous teas in China. While it remains a true insider tip in Europe, even among passionate tea drinkers, it enjoys absolute cult status in its homeland.

In the pristine high altitudes of Duyun, the plants grow nestled in constant mist and mineral-rich soils. This microclimate forces the buds to grow extremely slowly, allowing them to develop an extraordinary depth of flavor. The name "Duyun Hair Tips" faithfully describes the delicate spring buds, which are covered in a dense, silvery down.

The flavor profile of this exclusive green tea is elegant, complex, and deeply rooted in its origin. Even upon opening the package, the delicate, emerald-green leaves release an intensely fresh, grassy aroma. In the cup, the tea unfolds with a lively freshness, carried by a fine umami component and a subtle, almost creamy sweetness in the background. Its clean, crystal-clear minerality gives the tea a structured texture in the mouth and leads to a remarkably long-lasting aftertaste.

The true specialty lies in the masterful craftsmanship: for a single kilogram of the finished tea, up to 60,000 tiny, unopened tips must be carefully hand-picked. When brewing, you can observe a fascinating spectacle as the fine hairs dance in the water, partially detaching from the leaf and lending the pale, luminous green infusion a wonderfully velvety, soft texture on the tongue.

Why did we add this to our shop?

We first drank this tea at a small tea merchant's in Guiyang and were immediately so overwhelmed by the intense umami flavor and the delicacy that we simply had to include it in our shop. It has been Jonas' absolute favorite tea ever since.
